Bringing Notable Choreographers
to the Bay Area
In keeping with HMD’s mission to not only create, but also to foster outstanding dance, HMD’s Bridge Project brings notable choreographers to the Bay Area to enrich the cultural landscape. Carving out a niche as both a curatorial and creative force, HMD hosts the Bridge Project artist as part of the company’s annual spring season and facilitates teaching by Bridge Project artists.
HMD is pleased to announce the 2013 Bridge Project artist: Susan Rethorst. Based in New York City since 1975, and splitting her time between NYC and Amsterdam since 1995, Rethorst has presented work extensively throughout the U.S. and Europe. She is the recipient of two Bessie Awards and a 2010 Alpert Award in the Arts. A renowned choreography teacher, she has helped establish post-grad programs in Amsterdam, Salzberg, Cork, and Copenhagen. Her recent book A Choreographic Mind: Autobodygraphical Writings was named one of the top ten books of the year by the New Yorker. For a recent article in Dance Magazine about Rethorst, click here.
